Data controller
The operator of OWdle (https://playowdle.com) is the data controller and can be reached at privacy@playowdle.com.
Information collected
- Usage data, collected automatically by analytics tools (including Google Analytics): pages viewed, gameplay activity, errors, IP address and approximate location, device, browser, referring page, and a random identifier. This may include session replay of a sample of sessions, with form input masked.
- Account data (optional accounts only): email address, a password hash or a Google/Discord account ID, finished puzzle results, and the product-email opt-in choice.
- Feedback text, if a user submits feedback.
Cookies
OWdle uses a sign-in cookie (only for signed-in users), analytics cookies, and advertising cookies set by third-party ad partners. In the EU/UK, advertising cookies are only set after consent through the banner shown with the ads. Analytics cookies are not covered by that banner; they can be blocked in the browser settings or with Google’s opt-out add-on.
Advertising
Ads on OWdle are served by Venatus and its demand partners, including Google. These third parties may place and read cookies on users’ browsers, or use web beacons and IP addresses, to collect information as a result of ad serving on this site, and to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this and other websites. Users can accept, reject, or later change ad personalization in the consent banner shown with the ads. Personalized ads can also be turned off in Google Ads Settings or at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
Purposes and legal bases
- Running, securing, and improving the site, and measuring usage: legitimate interests.
- Providing an account a user chose to create: contract.
- Advertising cookies, ad personalization, and product emails: consent, which can be withdrawn at any time.
Recipients
Data is shared only with the providers that run the site: analytics providers (including Google), the hosting provider, advertising partners (Venatus and its demand partners), Ko-fi (if a user tips), Google or Discord (if a user signs in with them), and Resend (account emails). Some providers are in the United States; transfers from the EEA/UK rely on Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Retention
Analytics data is kept per the providers’ standard retention settings. Feedback is kept while it is useful. Account data is kept until the user deletes the account.
Privacy rights
EEA/UK users can access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of their data, request portability, withdraw consent, and complain to their data protection authority. California users can know, delete, and correct their data, opt out of its sale or sharing, and will not be discriminated against for doing so. Requests go to privacy@playowdle.com; signed-in users can also delete their account from the account menu.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
OWdle does not sell personal information for money, but letting ad partners personalize ads may count as a “sale” or “share” under California law. To opt out, use the consent banner shown with the ads, enable a Global Privacy Control signal (honored as an opt-out), or email privacy@playowdle.com. OWdle does not knowingly collect or sell the data of children under 16.

Updates to this policy are posted here with a new “Last updated” date.
